On the Sunday April 22nd 2018, the medical team and six Angel’s from the Fair Warung Balé left very early on the morning to reach a little tiny village “Salombo”, almost lost in the middle of nowhere close to Bondalem in the North of the Island. It was a long road, for the almost 22 people who were composing the Foundation medical team, as its takes more than 2.5 hours to go there by car and minibus… All our team were prepared for a long, busy but beautiful day, it always amazes me, even after more than 200 days of medical care like this one, to see and to feel this energy, this happiness to help others, which emanates from this extraordinary team.
So, we left from our Medical Center in Ubud around 6:150 am, our team was composed of our three medical coordinators, 3 doctors, 6 nurses, 1 pharmacist, 2 board members of the Bali Sari Foundation, our photographer and 3 people from our office responsible for collecting patient data and the people who come to each medical care days to support and help us on every medical event, even the smallest event. We were also very happy to welcome Alex Benavides one volunteer for this day and over all, a very good friend form Neuchâtel in Switzerland.
We went to Salombo – Bondalem, a very small village in the middle of the forest, people there are very poor, they don’t have access to water for exemple and this is very hot there, over 35˚ this day. We started treating the first patients around 8:00 AM, right there, as usual, we were struck by the general condition of most of our patients, all sick, all lacking in food and suffering from a lack of vitamins. Obviously, the children and the elderly are the first victims of these deficiencies…
During this day, we welcome and cared, comforted over 182 patients, so almost the entire population of this village, 50% of your patients were young children, many teens and few newborns. Young adults, very old people, some were not able to walk anymore. All those suffering from diseases and problems mainly related to fatigue, malnutrition, nutritional deficiencies, infections, skin diseases, untreated diabetes, infected wounds, many young children with respiratory infections, lack of vitamins, same all the time actually. (This is why we used the same sentences or words to describe the situations and our work context.). We also donate about 500 kilos of food to pre-selected people, the poorest actually.
Book a table to the Fair Warung Balé here To complete a day of medical care like this day in Salombo, we needed all of you. It is indeed an amount of $ 1,350.- that it was necessary to offer free medical care this population. This amount comes from the activities of Fair Warung Balé, it comes from all of you who come to support us as many (but not enough…), every day in this unique place in the world, this little social restaurant that fund over 32,000 medical treatments every year. Magic!
